New Quora subscription – What does it mean for content creators?

By Jonathan Nuñez

Yesterday (Thursday, August 5, 2021), Quora announced that they are launching two new subscription options for content creators; 1) Quora+ and 2) Space monetization.

Quora launched these subscriptions to support those who invest large amounts of time on the platform to share their knowledge, enabling higher quality content to exist.

What is Quora+?

Quora+ is a subscription bundle where Quora users can have access to gated content on the platform. If a business wants to monetize its content on the platform, they can choose to have some content publicly available to attract new users and build an audience, and gated content to monetize it.

You can select content you’ve previously written or create new content for inclusion into the subscription bundle.

How can businesses and content creators use Quora+?

Quora+ subscribers will pay Quora a monthly subscription, in return, they’ll get access to all Quora+ content.

Then Quora will distribute this revenue to creators in proportion to the amount each subscriber is consuming their content, with more of a subscriber’s contribution going to writers and spaces the subscriber follows.

Who can benefit from this?

This is a great opportunity for freelancers, content creators, and small businesses to easily monetize their content. All you have to do is create a Quora Space and a Stripe account. The whole process takes around 10 minutes to complete.

What are Space subscriptions?

Space subscriptions are, as the name suggests, memberships to Spaces where users get access to expert advice. By doing this, Spaces become platforms where freelancers, business owners, and content creators can share specialized knowledge or a place to engage communities of any size with a mix of original and shared content.

In a sense, it works similarly to how Patreon works. On Patreon, patrons pay a monthly fee to get extra content they can’t get for free such as behind-the-scenes content, private live streams, gated content, and more.

How can businesses and content creators monetize their Quora Spaces?

When freelancers, business owners, or content creators enable subscriptions for a space, they can choose whatever price they want, Quora will then take a 5% fee from each subscription.

With Space subscriptions, you will be able to choose which content to show to everyone and which to make exclusive to subscribers.

Who is eligible to enable Space subscriptions?

Space subscriptions launched yesterday (Thursday, August 5, 2021) in English for all creators who are residents of 25 countries and Quora will expand to more languages and countries over time. The countries in question include:

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Malta
  • Mexico
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

How can you promote your Spaces and benefit from the Quora+ bundle?

The best way to promote your Spaces is to focus on answering questions that are already getting a lot of attention on the platform and are actively receiving traffic from Google.

An easy way to find the best questions to answer is to use both Google and our Q-Stats Chrome extension. Here’s how it works.

1. Search on Google

Head over to Google and run a search with the following advanced operator, “site:quora.com + your search query”. For this particular example, we’ll look for content in the gardening niche. My search would then become “site:quora.com gardening”, without quotation marks.

2. Visit the questions you want to answer and analyze them

The first thing you’ll want to do is look at the current competition. If your account is new, focus on answering questions with less than 10 answers. Also, make sure the question is receiving SEO traffic.

One of the biggest mistakes we see people make on Quora is answering every single question. But just because you answer many questions, it doesn’t mean anyone will read them. Therefore, look for content that’s already ranking high on Google.

To see the SEO traffic going to a page, click “Expose” under the “Avg. SEO traffic” section of Q-Stats.

Then you’ll see one of four options; 1) None, 2) Low, 3) Medium, and 4) High. This will be determined by the number of keywords the page is ranking for on Google. If you get anything besides “None”, click it to reveal a summary of the ranking keywords.

You should be able to see the number of keywords it ranks for and an estimation of how many clicks it receives from Google per month. Click “View the SEO full data” to see a list of all the ranking keywords, volume, and ranking positions.

Look for ranking keywords in the top 10 ranking positions (ideally top 3), with a monthly search volume of at least 20. Questions in Google’s top ten ranking positions often improve rankings over time after creating a great answer to fulfills search intent.

3. Write a great Quora answer

To be able to rank high on Quora’s answer rankings, we need to provide the best answer we can. To do that, we need to understand what Quora is looking for. Here’s their definition of a great answer:

“A good answer is helpful to anyone who wants to know the answer to the question. Good answers are helpful to both the original poster of the question and to anyone else who has the same question in the future. An answer is helpful when it’s clear, credible, and sincerely addresses the question that was asked.” – Quora

We recommend you create an answer outline to know exactly what you should mention in your answer. One of the best ways to find out what your audience wants to know is to look at Google’s “People also ask” and “Related searches”.

If you run a Google search for your main keyword and scroll down a little bit, you’ll be able to see the “People also ask” section, and if you go to the bottom of the page, you’ll see the “Related searches”.

Make a list of the topics that make sense to mention in your answer and write something that can be used by anyone who visits Quora.

If you want to see an example of a great answer, check this answer we wrote for a client. It should help you understand what the final product should look like.

If you want us to help you with this process, we recommend you get our Enterprise membership of Q-Stats. If you do so, we’ll provide you with…
